We are looking for an Accounts Assistant / Accounting Technician to join our team here in Carrigaline, Cork.
You will be a critical member of the team that keeps the finances in perfect order. You'll deal with the day-to-day incomes and expenses, making sure all our suppliers are always looked after in a timely and helpful way. If you are organised, driven and have an eye for getting every detail right, then we'd love to hear from you.
The largest side here is taking great care of our wonderful suppliers - hotels, attractions, coaching companies and alike. As our suppliers send in invoices, it's your job to check they are all correct, add them into the accounts' system, then get them paid straight away. A good eye for detail is critical here, as during a busy season it's easy for suppliers to make mistakes, and it's our job to make sure we pick them all up.
The next section in client payments. Most payments are fully automated. However, you'll need to keep your eye on them, and deal with any bits that come up, for example processing any refunds or dealing with any issues that pop up.
There'll be other common parts of accounts too, for example processing payroll, bank reconciliation, assisting in tax returns, and keeping a good eye on all the financial transactions and accounts.
Your next area of responsibility would be looking after the office suppliers side — little things like utilities, phones and alike, to make sure we are getting the best rates. If no-one's paying attention, it's easy to end up paying for subscriptions that we no longer use. It'll be your job to keep an eye to look after that side.
We are a small team who all help each other. No doubt there'll be times when you'll be helping your colleagues with a range of non-accounts related tasks that need an extra shoulder to the wheel, for example helping to get rooming lists ready for the hotels or booking attraction visits for our clients.
If I had to guess, I'd say you'd spend about 25% of your time on these types of tasks helping the rest of the team, though it does vary throughout the year.
We can make this a full-time or part-time role, to suit you.
If you opt for the full-time role, that would be 35 hours per week. The part-time version would be 25 hours per week.
Please note, the salary and annual leave below are based on the full-time option, and such would be pro-rata if you opt for part-time.
Working hours are 35 hours per week.
The team works from our Carrigaline office in County Cork.
Most team members work 9–5, though there is flexibility here. For example, if you'd rather work 10–6 each day, that would be fine. Equally, if you would like to have the ability just to move some hours around a little from time to time, just let us know what would suit you. We'll always do our best to accommodate, so please just ask, and we'll see if we can make it possible.
The proposed salary is €40,000 per year, and there are 20 days paid annual leave per year.
Firstly, let's start with what is not required: any experience in the tourism sector or in operations. We are looking for the right person, and if this is you, we can give you all the training support you need for everything else.
You do not need to have both, though extra experience in either regard would be an advantage.
Your solid computer skills keep you fast and accurate, and your passion for improving them helps you pick up new tips and tricks regularly.
To say you'll be dealing with many moving parts would be a bit of an understatement. Guests sometimes change their minds at the last minute, or suppliers might make a mistake and send our invoices to another Tour Operator altogether! This position is for someone who excels at juggling countless different tasks and enjoys the challenge of a last-minute curveball being thrown into the mix.
There's no space for "flying by the seat of your pants". You need to be the type of person who enjoys setting up systems and processes and gets great satisfaction from getting the details right.
If you get that lovely warm feeling in your belly when the accounts match, to the cent, then you'll fit right in here.
When looking after the finances of someone's holiday of a lifetime, making a small oversight is not an option. Precision is everything in this industry, and you'll need that passion for organisation to make sure there's never a crack anything could fall into.
Enthusiastic about the idea of learning more about accounting, about systems, about improving your computer skills, about everything. No matter how good we are, there's always a new trick we can learn to be better.
We'd expect you to arrive with an understanding of accounting and bookkeeping, through either academic qualifications or past work experience. We will though give you plenty of training to make sure you are completely happy with how to excel in your role.
We'll cover things like:
As long as you've the base principles for accounts, and an enthusiasm to learn, then we can teach you the rest.
We are a growing company, who are expanding year-on-year, and you'll be able to grow with us.
We can provide further training and development, in everything from accounts, to Excel skills, to efficiency and computer systems, to help you develop your skills and career further. The drive has to come from you — if you'd like to push your Excel skills to full ninja level, then just ask, we'd be only too happy to provide that.
This should very much be a two-way process. It is just as important that you are happy with us as vice versa.
There'll be plenty of opportunities for you to assess us throughout the process, but before then if you have any questions, or would like to have a chat before deciding if applying is the right thing for you, please just get in touch any time. You can email on jobs@myirelandtour.com or call 021 237 9006.
To apply for this position, please use our application form here. You'll need your CV ready to send over after you've filled in the application form. Thank you.
The closing date for applications for this vacancy is Sunday, 26th January 2025.
Just in case you are wondering, there are four stages to the recruitment process, and we'll be shortlisting between each stage.
This should be a two-way process, and we would not want you to apply for this position unless you are convinced we are the right fit for you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch at jobs@myirelandtour.com. We'd be glad to help. Thank you.
